Santragachi Junction railway station (SRC) is arailway junction inSouth Eastern Railway Zone ofIndian Railways, situated inSantragachhi,Howrah, India.[5] It is one of the five intercity large railway stations serving theKolkata metropolitan region,India. The station is operated by theSouth Eastern Railway (SER) zone ofIndian Railways.[5] SER serves local trains toAmta,Mecheda,Panskura,Haldia,Kharagpur andMedinipur and mail/express trains to Central, West and South India from here.
While the station had existed for many years on the line toHowrah railway station, work for its upgrade to a railway terminal started in 2015.[5]SER wished to use it for their long-distance trains which reduces the load on the crowdedHowrah railway station, which is operated byEastern Railway.[5]
In 2018 two people died due to a stampede at the railway station.[6] According toThe Hindu, they died of being crashed by a train while crossing the railway tracks on foot.
