Santiago Ahuanojinou Zannou (born 1977) is a Spanish filmmaker.
Zannou was born in 1977 inMadrid,[1] son to a father fromBenin and a mother fromAragon.[2][3] He was raised inCarabanchel,[2] leaving forMallorca at age 19.[4] He moved toBarcelona to study filmmaking at theCentre d'Estudis Cinematogràfics de Catalunya [es] (CECC).[4]
Zannou's debut filmThe One-Handed Trick (2008) earned him theGoya Award for Best New Director (the film also won Best New Actor and Best Original Song).[2] It was followed by two documentary films, namelyEl alma de La Roja [es] (2009; a documentary about theSpain national football team) andLa puerta de no retorno (2011; tracking the return of his father Alphonse Zannou to Benin with his family 40 years after leaving).[5][3]
His second fiction featureScorpion in Love (2013), penned alongsideCarlos Bardem, earned him a nomination to theGoya Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.[6]
