TheSanta Ana Valley is located inOrange County, California and is bisected by theSanta Ana River. The valley is home to most of Orange County's central business districts. The cities ofAnaheim,Buena Park,Costa Mesa,Fullerton,Irvine,Orange,Placentia,Santa Ana, andYorba Linda are located in the Santa Ana Valley.

History

This valley was namedVallejo de Santa Ana in 1769 after theGaspar de Portolà expedition, of which FriarJunípero Serra was a part, as well as SargeantJosé Antonio Yorba, andJosé Manuel Nieto. The mission located closest to the Santa Ana Valley isMission San Juan Capistrano, which was built east of theSan Joaquin Hills, in the present day city ofSan Juan Capistrano.
