Sarangpur (also known as Salangpur) is a village in theBotad District in the state ofGujarat, India. Sarangpur is known throughoutIndia for the historic Shri Kashtabhanjan Hanumanji temple and BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir located in the village. The village of about 3000 people lies at the border of Ahmedabad district. The nearest town isBotad. The village is about 153 km. away from Ahmedabad.
Hanuman temple, Sarangpur is aHindu temple (mandir) located inSarangpur,Gujarat and comes under theVadtal Gadi of theSwaminarayan Sampraday. It is the only Swaminarayan temple which has themurtis of neitherSwaminarayan norKrishna as the primary object of worship.[1] It is dedicated toHanuman in the form ofKashtbhanjan (Crusher of sorrows).[2]
Smruti temples ofShastri Yagnapurushdas andPramukh Swami Maharaj, who succeeded Yagnapurushdas are also located nearBAPS mandir.
Sarangpur is also known for itsBAPS Shri Swaminarayan Shikharbaddha mandir, built in 1916 byShastri Yagnapurushdas which is the second highest temple in Gujarat at exactly 108 feet (108 is an auspicious number within theSwaminarayan Sampraday). It is a headquarters and training hub for newly enrolled monks (sadhus). Smruti temples ofShastri Yagnapurushdas andPramukh Swami Maharaj, who succeeded Yagnapurushdas are also located near BAPS mandir.[3]
