Bai (2012) classifies Sadu as a Hani (Hanoisha.k.a. Southern Loloish) language,[1] although the speakers are officially classified by the Chinese government as ethnicBai.[2] Fang (2013) notes that Sadu shares many similarities withSamu (Zijun), and classifies Sadu as a Southeastern Yi language.
