  • Many authors consider Sabino as an independent group of Italian language distinguished fromCentral Italian. It is the only dialect which keeps the twoaffixes-o and-u ofLate Latin,[citation needed] so there are words likecavajju 'horse', fromLatincaballus, andscrio 'I write', from Latinscribo.
  • In a large zone between Rieti andAniene Valley local dialects keeps theLate Latin vocalic system: words in which stressed vowels aree oro the final affix is-o, in words in which stressed vowel arei oru the final affix is -u (riccu 'rich',novu 'new',omo 'man',otto 'eight').
  • Apocope of infinitive affixes:magnà(re) 'to eat',occìde(re) 'to kill',dormì(re), 'to sleep'.
  • Splitting of -RR- inRieti district (tera < TERRA, 'soil').
