SBUDNIC was a 3U (one unit)CubeSat designed and built by an interdisciplinary group of undergraduate and graduate students atBrown University and theNational Research Council of Italy, for research and educational purposes. The satellite was anopen-source hardware project designed to be cheaply and easily reproduced, usingcommercial off-the-shelf parts like anArduino Nano and AAEnergizer batteries.[2][3][4]
The project was financed by Brown's Undergraduate Finance Board, theNational Research Council of Italy, and Rhode Island'sNASA Space Grant Consortium.[5] The satellite was deployed from D-Orbit'sION Satellite Carrier on theSpaceXFalcon 9 Transporter 5 mission.[6]
The satellite decayed from orbit on 10 August 2023.[1]
