Ronald Eyre (13 April 1929 – 8 April 1992) was an Englishtheatre director, actor and writer.
Eyre was born atMapplewell, nearBarnsley,Yorkshire and he taught atQueen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Blackburn andGiggleswick School. He became a leading director for the cinema, opera, television and the theatre. He was nominated for Broadway's 1975Tony Award as Best Director (Dramatic) forLondon Assurance. He presented theBBC television documentary seriesThe Long Search (1977), a survey of various world religions, which won a Red Ribbon at theAmerican Film Festival.
Eyre was the godfather of British actressEmma Thompson.[1][2]
