AdmiralSir Richard Victor Symonds-TaylerKBECBDSC (1897–1971) was aRoyal Navy officer who went on to beCommander-in-Chief, America and West Indies Station.
Symonds-Tayler joined theRoyal Navy in 1910 and served inWorld War I.[1] He was seconded to the British Naval Mission toGreece in 1929 and was given command ofHMSCenturion in 1938.[1]
He served inWorld War II as Commanding Officer ofHMSSussex and then as Director Training and Staff Duties at theAdmiralty until December 1942 when he was given command ofHMSLondon.[1]
After the War he was made Chief of Staff to theCommander-in-Chief, Portsmouth, and then Chief of Staff to the British Naval Representative on the United NationsMilitary Staff Committee in 1946.[1] He was appointed Flag Officer commanding 1st Cruiser Squadron in 1947 andCommander-in-Chief, America and West Indies Station, in 1949; he made an official visit toBuenos Aires in 1951[2] and retired in 1952.[1]
