TheReserve Bank of Malawi is thecentral bank ofMalawi established in the year 1964 located in Lilongwe.[2] The current governor is Wilson Banda.[3]
The Bank is active in promotingfinancial inclusion policy and is a leading member of theAlliance for Financial Inclusion. It is also one of the original 17 regulatory institutions to make specific national commitments to financial inclusion under theMaya Declaration[4] during the 2011Global Policy Forum held in Mexico.
The Reserve Bank of Malawi is the only institution permitted to issue theMalawian kwacha, which replaced theMalawian pound in 1971.
