Karna (Hebrew:קרנא) was a rabbi ofBabylonia, of the first generation ofamoraim. In theBabylonian Talmud he appears simply as Karna; in theJerusalem Talmud he is entitledRav Karna.
He was a colleague ofSamuel of Nehardea andRav, and served as arabbinic judge. The phrase "Judges of the Exile" in theBabylonian Talmud is an epithet attributed to Karna andSamuel of Nehardea.[1]
He wrote a compilation ofBaraitas toSeder Nezikin, known asNezikin of the School of Karna.[2] He made his living from testing wine quality.[3]
