Rakesh Madhavan (born 23 February 1977) is a Malaysiancricketer.[1][2] A left-handedbatsman and right-armmedium pacebowler,[3] he has played for theMalaysia national cricket team since 1997.[4]
Born inNegeri Sembilan in 1977,[3] Madhavan made his debut for Malaysia in the annualSaudara Cup match againstSingapore in September 1997. The following year he played in theStan Nagaiah Trophy against Singapore[5] before making hisList A debut againstPakistan International Airlines in the Pakistan domesticone-day tournament.[6]
He played a second Saudara Cup match in August[5] before representingMalaysia in thecricket tournament at the1998 Commonwealth Games, hosted inKuala Lumpur, playing againstSri Lanka,Zimbabwe andJamaica.[6] He finished the year playing in theACC Trophy,[5] with Malaysia losing toBangladesh in the final.[7]
Over the following years, he became almost an ever present for Malaysia, playing in every Stan Nagaiah Trophy and Saudara Cup match against Singapore until 2005, also playing in the ACC Trophy tournaments of 2000, 2002 and 2004 over the same time period, in addition to a match for Malaysia against theECB National Academy in February 2003.[5] He also played in the2001 ICC Trophy in Toronto.[8]
He made hisfirst-class debut in 2004, playing againstNepal and theUAE in theICC Intercontinental Cup.[9] He playedACC Fast Track Countries Tournament matches againstHong Kong in 2004 and against Singapore, Hong Kong and Nepal in 2005.[5]
He did not play in the Saudara Cup match of 2006,[10] though he did play in that year's Stan Nagaiah Trophy and ACC Trophy, in addition toACC Premier League matches against Hong Kong and Nepal. He most recently represented his country in the 2007 Saudara Cup.[5]
