Pyrotheriidae is the only family in theorderPyrotheria, provided one does not include thePaleocene genus,Carodnia. Theseextinct,elephant-likeungulates include thegeneraBaguatherium,Carolozittelia,Griphodon,Propyrotherium, andPyrotherium.[2] Fossils of the family have been found in Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia and Peru.
