TheDongan Charter is the 1686 documentincorporatingAlbany, New York as acity. Albany's charter was issued byGovernorThomas Dongan of theProvince of New York, a few months after Governor Dongan issued a similarly worded, but less detailedcharter for thecity of New York. The city of Albany was created three years afterAlbany County. The charter is the oldest existing city charter still in force in the United States and possibly in all theWestern Hemisphere. In 1936 the United States Congress commemorated the charter's 250th anniversary by minting a half dollar coin.
Gregory R. Ball (born September 16, 1977) is anAmerican business executive, former active dutyAir Force officer and member of theNew York State Assembly. Ball focused onillegal immigration during his tenure in office, and was named a Chairman of Lawmakers for Legal Immigration, an immigration reform group. He is a resident ofCarmel,New York. Assemblyman Ball serves as theranking member on theVeteran's Affairs committee, and is also a member of the Election Law, Energy, Housing, and Social Services committees. He representsNew York's 99th assembly district, which comprises the townsPatterson,Mahopac,Carmel,Southeast,Putnam Lake andBrewster, inPutnam County;Yorktown,Mohegan Lake,Somers, andNorth Salem inWestchester County; andPawling inDuchess County.
