ThePolish Physical Society (Polish:Polskie Towarzystwo Fizyczne, PTF) is a professionalscientific society of Polishphysicists.
The Polish Physical Society was established during an organizational meeting on 11 April 1920 inWarsaw.[1]Władysław Natanson was appointed the first president of the society. In 1932, the society's reports were reorganized into science journalActa Physica Polonica. In 1949, the first issue ofPostępy Fizyki magazine was published. Since 1951, the Polish Physical Society has been organizingphysics olympiads across Poland. In 1970, the first issue ofReports on Mathematical Physics was published inToruń.
In 2005, the first direct elections of the society's governing body were held using electronic voting. In 2006, PTF has become apublic benefit organization.[2] The society has 1977 ordinary members as well as 18 supporting members. It consists of 19 regional centres located inBydgoszcz,Białystok,Częstochowa,Gdańsk,Gliwice,Katowice,Kielce,Kraków,Lublin,Łódź,Opole,Poznań,Rzeszów,Słupsk,Szczecin,Toruń,Wrocław,Warsaw andZielona Góra.
In 2008, the society established a department which deals with supporting women physicists, debunkingstereotypes and encouraging girls to take upSTEM subjects with particular emphasis on physics.[3]
