Pike is anunincorporated community inCollin County, located in theU.S. state ofTexas.[1] According to theHandbook of Texas, the community had a population of 80 in 2000. It is located within theDallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
The area in what is known as Pike today was established in the early 1860s. It became a small and prosperous church community for local farmers. A post office was established at Pike in 1885 and remained in operation until 1932, when mail was rerouted toLeonard. In 1900, the community had two churches, aMasonic lodge, six stores, acotton gin, and ablacksmith shop and had over 100 people living in the vicinity. Its zenith was 172 in 1933 and remained at that level until 1945. It went down to 80 from 1980 through 2000.[2]
Pike is located onFarm to Market Road 981, 4 mi (6.4 km) northeast ofBlue Ridge and is less than a mile from theHunt County line in far-northeasternCollin County.[2]
Pike had its own school in the early 1860s.[2] Today the community is served by theLeonard Independent School District.
Father Lumpkin, a former football player, is buried in the community's cemetery.
