Philotrox is an extinctmonospecific genus of theHesperocyoninae subfamily of earlycanids native toNorth America. It lived during theOligocene, 30.8—26.3Ma, existing for approximately5 million years.[1] In form, it was intermediate between the smallCynodesmus and the laterEnhydrocyon, the first hypercarnivorous, "bone-cracking", canid.[2]
