Phaeocystida, also known asPhaeocystina,[1] is a group ofcercozoans in the classPhaeodarea. It was first described byErnst Haeckel in 1887 and treated traditionally as a suborder,[2] but later was raised to order level untilCavalier-Smith's classification lowered it again to suborder level. It belongs to the orderEodarida, characterised by simpler silica skeletons or a lack thereof.[1]
