Periparus is agenus of birds in thetit family. The birds in the genus were formerly included inParus but were moved toPeriparus whenParus was split into several resurrected genera following the publication of a detailedmolecular phylogenetic analysis in 2005.[2][3] The namePeriparus had been introduced for asubgenus ofParus that included the coal tit by the Belgium naturalistEdmond de Sélys Longchamps in 1884.[4] The genus name, isAncient Greekperi plus the pre-existing genusParus.[5]
