Thepericardiacophrenic artery is a long slender branch of theinternal thoracic artery.[1]
The pericardiacophrenic artery branches from the internal thoracic artery.[1]
The pericardiacophrenic arteries travel through thethoracic cavity. They course through thefibrous pericardium.[2] The pericardiacophrenic artery accompanies thephrenic nerve between thepleura andpericardium, to thediaphragm.[3] This is where both the artery and the phrenic nerve are distributed.
The pericardiacophrenic arteries provide arterial supply to thefibrous pericardium,[2] and (along with the musculophrenic arteries) the diaphragm.[4]
Itanastomoses with themusculophrenic, andsuperior phrenic arteries.[5]
