Paul Marquet (born 26 September 1969 inNewcastle, New South Wales) is an Australian former professionalrugby league footballer who played in the 1990s and 2000s. He played primarily as asecond-row for Australian clubs theNewcastle Knights,Hunter Mariners andMelbourne Storm, and for English club, theWarrington Wolves.[1]

Born inNewcastle, New South Wales. Paul played junior rugby league forRaymond Terrace, New South Wales.

Playing career

A resilientsecond-row forward, Marquet has the honour of scoring the first try for theHunter Mariners in their first game of the1997 Super League season. He would also score the first try for theMelbourne Storm on their first home game of the1998 NRL season against theNorth Sydney Bears.[2]

Marquet participated in seven finals series and twoNRL Grand Finals, the most memorable being his appearance as asecond-row forward for theMelbourne Storm in the1999 NRL Grand Final, played on his 30th birthday.[3] Having won the 1999 Premiership, theMelbourne Storm traveled to England to contest the2000 World Club Challenge againstSuper League ChampionsSt Helens R.F.C., with Marquet again starting as asecond-rower in the victory. He played for theNewcastle Knights from the interchange bench in their2001 NRL Grand Final victory over theParramatta Eels.
