Patrick Murray (born 1956 or 1957)[1] is an English actor who had roles inITV Playhouse (1977),Scum andQuadrophenia (1979),Breaking Glass (1980),Curse of the Pink Panther (1983),Bergerac (1983),Dempsey and Makepeace (1986),The Firm (1989). He was most notable for his role as Mickey Pearce in 20 episodes ofOnly Fools and Horses from 1983 to 2003.
In 1977, Murray appeared in television playScum, and again In the 1979 film of the same nameScum, both times alongsideRay Winstone.[2] He also starred in the 1979 filmQuadrophenia, in a cast which includedSting,Toyah Willcox,Michael Elphick andTimothy Spall.[3] In 1989, he starred in the filmThe Firm alongsideGary Oldman.[4]
Murray's longest role was as Mickey Pearce in 20 episodes ofOnly Fools and Horses between 1983–2003, starring alongsideDavid Jason andNicholas Lyndhurst.[5]
In 2018, Murray was supposed to take part in a bus trip that would raise money forDemelza, a children's hospice. However, the trip was called off last minute as Murray revealed he is receiving treatment forchronic obstructive pulmonary disease.[6] The trip would have included him entertaining 70 fans while travelling fromLeysdown-on-Sea in Kent toMargate.[6] Murray wanted to complete the trip at a later date.[6]
Murray had retired from acting and became a cab driver, in order to comply with minimum income rules for non-European spouses to bring his wife, Anongg,[7] and daughter, Josie,[7] over fromThailand,[6] under a rule introduced byTheresa May in 2012,[7] when she wasHome Secretary.[6] Since that time, Murray and Anong have managed to obtain a work visa.[8]
He announced he hadlung cancer in January 2021.[9] In May 2022, Murray announced that he had been given the all-clear on his lung cancer and treatment had been successful.[8] He had had the medical procedureTranscatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE).[8] In April 2023, he revealed the lung cancer had returned and spread.[10]
