Parmeet Sethi is an Indian actor.[2] He is best known for portraying Kuljeet Singh in his debut inAditya Chopra's directorial debutDilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995).[3]

Sethi has also acted in films such asDhadkan (2000),Om Jai Jagadish (2002),Lakshya (2004),Baabul (2006),Dil Dhadakne Do (2015),Rustom (2016),Laila Majnu (2018) andBhangra Paa Le (2020).[4] Apart from films, he is also active in television shows and has appeared inDastaan (1995-1996) andJassi Jaissi Koi Nahin (2003-2006),Detective Omkar Nath (2006),Sujata (2008),Pehredaar Piya Ki (2017),My Name Ijj Lakhan (2019),Special OPS (2020) andHundred (2020).

He made his directorial debut withBadmaash Company (2010) which earned him a nomination for the Best Debutante Director atZee Cine Awards.[5]

Personal life

Sethi married actressArchana Puran Singh on 30 June 1992.[6] They have two sons, Aryamann and Ayushmaan.[7] He is the cousin of television actressNiki Aneja Walia.[8][9][10]

Career

Sethi made hisBollywood debut in the award-winning filmDilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), portraying the role of Kuljeet Singh.[11][12] The movie went onto became a commercially and critically acclaimed film.[13][14] Subsequently, he starred inDiljale (1996) as Captain Ranveer withAjay Devgn andSonali Bendre.[15] He also starred in the critically acclaimedPunjabi language filmDes Hoyaa Pardes (2004).[16] The film won aNational Award forBest Feature Film in Punjabi.[17]

In 2005, he participated in the first season ofIndian television dance reality showNach Baliye with his wifeArchana Puran Singh.[18] Then in 2006, he hosted another television dance reality showJhalak Dikhhla Jaa with his wife.[19]

In 2010, he tried his first directorial venture,Yash Raj'sBadmaash Company starringShahid Kapoor,Anushka Sharma andMeiyang Chang, which was a success at box office earning 530 millionIndian rupees.[20] Sethi wrote its entire script with dialogues in just six days.[21] The film received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics.Taran Adarsh ofBollywood Hungama gave it a rating of 3 out of 5, saying; "On the whole,Badmaash Company is a watchable experience for various reasons, the prime reason being it offers solid entertainment, but doesn't insult your intelligence."[22]Rajeev Masand ofCNN-IBN gave the movie 1.5 out of 5 and claimed it to be "outrageously silly".[23] Gaurav Malani ofIndiatimes gave the film 3.5 out of 5 saying "Badmaash Company is a good entertainer. Worth a watch!" and praising Shahid Kapoor.[24]Komal Nahta gave the film 2.5 out of 5, praising the performance of Kapoor and calledBadmaash Company "an entertainer".[25] Sukanya Verma ofrediff gave the film 2 out of 5 stars saying Sethi's directorial debut starts out with cocksure confidence and zing.[26]Nikhat Kazmi of theTimes of India gave the film 3 out of 5 stars and said, "Indeed,Badmaash Company does have a bunch of riveting scenes, although the story does follow a very predictable line of crime and punishment/repentance."[27]DNA gave the film 2.5 out of 5 saying, "This company is worth keeping."[28]Anupama Chopra ofNDTV called it a "staggeringly tedious film" while Raja Sen ofRediff said, "There's not a single scene in the film that actually works". Mayank Shekhar of theHindustan Times criticised the film as half-written; he only liked the film until the interval and gave it 2 out of 5.[29] The film received an aggregate rating of 4/10 atReviewGang.[30]

In 2008, after his appearance in the film namedDus Kahaniyaan (2007),[31][32] he took a break from acting to focus on writing and direction.[33] But in 2015, he made his comeback after seven years as an actor in theZoya Akhtar directorialDil Dhadakne Do (2015).[34]

He has also directed some episodes of sitcomSumit Sambhal Lega (2015).[35][36] In 2017, he again directed another televisionsitcomHar Mard Ka Dard.[37][38] It starred Faisal Rashid in lead.[39] In 2020, Sethi appeared inNeeraj Pandey directedhotstar original web seriesSpecial OPS.[citation needed] In 2021, he made hisPunjabi television debut with a show namedAkhiyaan Udeek Diyan, which was aired onZee Punjabi.[40]
