ThePacific Motorway and thePacific Highway both cross the river, atKangy Angy.[2]
The name of the townOurimbah, near which the river passes, is derived from theAustralian Aboriginal word meaningbora orceremonial ground; or the word for "the sacred circle on the initiation site for investing theOorin or belt of manhood".[1][3]
