Initially, Mya met rapperGoldLink through his manager. GoldLink and his team was looking for a singer to record a collaboration for his debut album. Originally, the track was due to featureAmerie, however upon hearing Mýa, GoldLink and his team were sold on the idea of using her vocals.[1] After their collaboration, "Roll Call", which was featured on his albumAt What Cost (2017). Mýa reached out and reunited with GoldLink on "Open," a song featured on her thirteenth studio project,T.K.O. (The Knock Out) (2018).[2] While the album's version features rapper GoldLink, Mýa decided to gift fans with the solo version for their support of her thirteenth studio project.[3]
