Oliver von Dohnányi (born 2 March) is aSlovakconductor based inPrague,Czech Republic.
Dohnányi was born inTrenčín,Czechoslovakia (now inSlovakia) and studiedviolin,composition and conducting at thePrague Academy for Music underVáclav Neumann and theUniversity of Music and Performing Arts inVienna underOtmar Suitner. He made his conducting debut in 1979 with theSlovak Radio Symphony Orchestra inBratislava.[1] Previously, Dohnányi served as the music director of theCzech National Theatre in Prague, Intendent/Artistic Director of the Opera of theSlovak National Theatre in Bratislava, Intendent/Artistic Director of the Opera of theMoravian-Silesian National Theatre inOstrava, and principal conductor of the Slovak Sinfonietta.[1]
In 2018, Dohnányi received the biggest Russian theatrical award,The Golden Mask, with the title "Best Conductor".[2]
Dohnányi is also a member of the well-knownDohnányi family, a notableHungarian family of politicians and musicians.
