Nuevo Urecho is amunicipality located in the center of theMexicanstate ofMichoacán. The municipality has an area of 330.66 square kilometres (0.56% of the surface of the state)[1] and is bordered to the north by the municipality ofTaretan, to the east byArio, to the south byLa Huacana, and to the west byGabriel Zamora. The municipality had a population of 7,722 inhabitants according to the 2005 census.[2] Its municipal seat is the city of the same name.
Inpre-Columbian times Urecho was successively habiatated byChichimecas and then the powerfulPurépecha people. Urecho means "Place Located inTierra caliente".
