Noyelles-sur-Mer (French pronunciation:[nwajɛlsyʁmɛʁ], literallyNoyelles on Sea) is acommune in theSommedepartment inHauts-de-France in northernFrance.

Geography

Noyelles-sur-Mer is situated on the coast, facing theEnglish Channel, on the D11 and D40 junction, some 13 kilometres (8 mi) northwest ofAbbeville.

History

On 20 May 1940 at 02:00 in the early morning, Noyelles-sur-Mer became one of the first French settlements on the coast of the English Channel occupied by theWehrmacht during theBattle of France.[3]: 317 

Railways

Noyelles has arailway station on theBoulogne–Amiens line. There is also aheritage railway at Noyelles, theChemin de Fer de la Baie de Somme, which formed part of theRéseau des Bains de Mer system. Adual gauge line goes toSaint-Valery-sur-Somme, and ametre gauge line continues on toCayeux. Another metre gauge line goes toLe Crotoy. A further metre gauge line, now closed, went toForest-l'Abbaye, where it connected with the line betweenAbbeville andDompierre-sur-Authie.
