Nitrogenase (flavodoxin) (EC 1.19.6.1) is anenzyme withsystematic namereduced flavodoxin:dinitrogen oxidoreductase (ATP-hydrolysing).^[1] This enzymecatalyses the followingchemical reaction

6 reducedflavodoxin + 6 H⁺ + N₂ + n ATP

6 oxidized flavodoxin + 2 NH₃ + n ADP + nphosphate

The enzyme is a complex of two proteins containingiron-sulfur centres andmolybdenum.
