Nitrogenase (flavodoxin) (EC1.19.6.1) is anenzyme withsystematic namereduced flavodoxin:dinitrogen oxidoreductase (ATP-hydrolysing).[1] This enzymecatalyses the followingchemical reaction

6 reducedflavodoxin + 6 H+ + N2 + n ATP{\displaystyle \rightleftharpoons } 6 oxidized flavodoxin + 2 NH3 + n ADP + nphosphate

The enzyme is a complex of two proteins containingiron-sulfur centres andmolybdenum.
