Nirmal Baby Varghese is anIndian film director inMalayalam.[1][2][3][4] He is known for his historical documentary filmThariode.[5][6][7][8] His feature directorial debutVazhiye, was anexperimental movie made infound footage style and it is the first found footage movie in Malayalam.[1][9][10] He is also script writer, film editor, and public relations officer.[11][12] He is the younger brother of film producerBaby Chaithanya.[13][14] He runs his ownindependent film production company calledCasablanca Film Factory.[15]
Nirmal was born to Baby P K and Lilly Baby on 13 January 1994 at Kavummannam, inWayanad district, inKerala.[16][17][18]
In 2016, Nirmal directed two short films,Mirror of Reality andMattam the Change, which were later released onAmazon Prime Video on 2020.[19][20][12][21]
He began his career inMalayalam film industry in 2017 as the associate editor of the filmKalippu, starringBala Singh,Kalasala Babu,Ambika Mohan andShalil Kallur.[22][23][24] He has also worked as a public relations officer for the filmsMoppala,[25]Deira Diaries,[26]Sarcas Circa 2020,[27] andVijay Yesudas's multilingual 3D filmSalmon 3D.[28]
He made his third directorial venture inThariode, a historical documentary film about gold mining inThariode.[5][29] The film found critical acclaim in the festival circuit.[2][30][31] He also announced a fictionalization ofThariode.[32][33][34] He later announced the title of this cinematic remake asThariode: The Lost City with a mainly foreign cast list includingBill Hutchens,Luing Andrews,Alexx O'Nell,Courtney Sanello,Amelie Leroy,Brendan Byrne andRoger Ward.[35][36][37][38][39][40]
His feature directorial debut filmVazhiye is the firstfound footage movie in theMalayalam language.[41][42][43] The film marked the debut ofHollywood music directorEvan Evans inIndian cinema.[44][45][46][47]
