Nicolás Fonseca (born 19 October 1998) is a professionalfootballer who plays as amidfielder forLiga MX clubLeón and theUruguay national team.[1]
Before the second half of 2021–22, Fonseca signed for Uruguayan sideRiver Plate (Montevideo).[2] In the first week of 2024, he signed forRiver Plate of Argentina.[3]
Fonseca received his first call-up to theUruguay national team in March 2024 forfriendlies againstBasque Country andIvory Coast.[4] He made his debut on 23 March in a 1–1 draw against Basque Country.[5]
Nicolás is the son of former Uruguay internationalDaniel Fonseca.[6] His brotherMatías is also a footballer.[7]
On February 28, 2025, Fonseca was kidnapped in a van inMexico and was freed a couple of hours later.[8]
