New West Records is a record label based inNashville, Tennessee, andAthens, Georgia. It had offices inBurbank, California, and Beverly Hills, California.[1] The label was established in 1998 by Cameron Strang "for artists who perform real music for real people"[2] and has been home toindie rock,alternative country, andAmericana bands.[3] The label's records in the US were previously distributed byAlternative Distribution Alliance beginning in 2013 through to 2018[4] whenRedeye Distribution assumed distribution in 2018.[5] ThePIAS Group handles the distribution in Europe.[6]
New West has had numerous albums debut in the Billboard Top 200 and has a number ofGrammy Award-winning artists and releases, includingDwight Yoakam,Steve Earle,Rickie Lee Jones,Kris Kristofferson andDelbert McClinton. The current label roster features49 Winchester,Los Lobos,Ben Folds,Sara Watkins,The Devil Makes Three,JD McPherson,Buddy Miller,Corb Lund,Nikki Lane,Rodney Crowell,John Hiatt,James McMurtry,Caroline Rose,Richard Thompson,Nada Surf,Sunny War,The Wallflowers,Jaime Wyatt and more.[7] The catalogue includes releases fromAll Them Witches,Drive-By Truckers,Jason Isbell,Shovels & Rope,Justin Townes Earle,Patty Griffin,Old 97's,Vic Chesnutt, andTony Joe White as well as reissues byPylon (band)[8] andAcetone (band).[9]
In 2007 and 2008 New West was recognized byNARM as the entertainment software supplier of the year. New West Records also exclusively releases CDs and DVDs from the award-winning television programAustin City Limits.
New West executive George Fontaine Sr received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the2023 Americana Music Honors & Awards for his work with the label.[10]
