Naulakha Bazaar (Punjabi,Urdu:نولکھا بازار) isbazaar located inLahore,Punjab,Pakistan.

History

The bazaar was established in 1633 and is located inLahore Fort near Naulakha Pavilion. TheShaheed Ganj Mosque is located in Naulakha Bazaar. The usedclothing andcrockery bazaar,landa bazaar, is also located near Naulakha Bazaar.[1]

When theNaulakha Pavilion was built in 1633 by theMughal emperorShah Jahan as a smallsummer house, it cost around 900,000rupees, an exorbitant amount at the time.[2] It is calledNaulakha because inPunjabi language, the word means 'worth 9 lakhsrupees'.[3] This also brought the wordNaulakha into common use to signify something precious.[4]
