Nagwan Al-Guneid (born 1984/1985) is a Canadian politician from theAlberta New Democratic Party.
Al-Guneid graduated from theUniversity of Calgary with an undergraduate degree in communications and amaster's degree insustainable development.[3]
She has spent much of her career working in the energy industry sector, like many Albertans starting in the oil and gas sector.[4] Immediately prior to her election, Al-Guneid served as the director of the Business Renewables Centre Canada. Al-Guneid was also appointed to the City of Calgary'sbiodiversity advisory committee byCalgary City Council, where she counselled the government between 2016 and 2019.[1] In 2022, Calgary's Avenue magazine named her part of their Top 40 Under 40 2022.[5]
After the2023 Alberta general election, she was elected the member of theLegislative Assembly of Alberta forCalgary-Glenmore. Shedefeated incumbentUnited Conservative Party MLAWhitney Issik.[6] As of June 21, 2024, she serves as the Official Opposition critic for Energy and Minerals.[7]
Al-Guneid speaks English, French, and Arabic.[8] She is a wife and mother to two young sons.[4]
