NGC 5010 is alenticular galaxy located about 140 million light years away in theconstellationVirgo.[2] It was discovered byJohn Herschel on May 9, 1831.[4] It is considered aLuminous Infrared Galaxy (LIRG).[1] As the galaxy has few young blue stars and mostly red old stars and dust, it is transitioning from being aspiral galaxy to being anelliptical galaxy, with its spiral arms having burned out and become dusty arms.[2] From the perspective of Earth, the galaxy is facing nearly edge-on.[5]
