Muse Records was ajazz record company and label founded in New York City byJoe Fields in 1972.^[1]

Fields worked as an executive forPrestige Records in the 1960s.^[2] Several of the albums were previously released onCobblestone Records. Muse also had another label,Onyx Records, which operated until 1978, when Fields and collaboratorDon Schlitten ended their professional relationship.^[3]

In the late 1970s, Muse partnered with the DutchTimeless Records to distributeTimeless Muse.

Muse was sold in 1996 to32 Jazz, which repackaged and reissued a large amount of Muse recordings.^[4][5][6][7] In 2003,Savoy Jazz (which had become a subsidiary ofNippon Columbia) acquired the rights to the Muse catalog (along with that ofLandmark) from 32 Jazz.^[8]

Fields later foundedHighNote Records andSavant Records; many Muse artists later recorded for these labels as well.

From 1972 until 1995 Muse released around 500 albums.^{[9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19]}
