Murray Selwyn Jones (born 1957 in Lower Hutt) is aNew Zealand sailor.
Jones represented New Zealand in theFlying Dutchman class in1988 and1992 Summer Olympics. He was also selected for the 1976,1980, and 1984 Olympics in the 470 Class. Olympics[1] Jones finished5th in 1988 and4th in 1992, alongsideGreg Knowles.
Jones was part ofTeam New Zealand that won theAmerica's Cup in1995 and then defended the trophy in2000. Jones was one of six prominent sailors who then left Team New Zealand and joinedAlinghi, winning the2003 America's Cup and2007 America's Cup. Jones was inducted into theAmerica's Cup Hall of Fame in 2010.[2]
Along withRussell Coutts, Jones later joinedOracle Team USA and was involved in the2013 America's Cup victory.[3]
Jones re-joined Team New Zealand for the2017 America's Cup. He has won the Americas Cup 6 times.[4]
Jones married Olympic sailor and medalistJan Shearer. His daughter,Gemma, is a sailor and competed in the2016 Summer Olympics finishing 4th.
