Minskip is a village in thecivil parish ofBoroughbridge, inNorth Yorkshire, England. It is on theA6055 road and 1 mile south-west ofBoroughbridge. Minskip appears in theDomesday Book as Minescip, a name derived from the Old Englishgemaenscipe meaning a community or communal holding.[1]
Minskip was historically atownship in the parish ofAldborough[2] in theWest Riding of Yorkshire.[3] It became a separate civil parish in 1866, but on 1 April 1938 the civil parish was abolished and merged into the civil parish of Boroughbridge.[4] In 1931 the parish had a population of 238.[5] In 1974 Minskip was transferred from the West Riding to the new county of North Yorkshire. From 1974 to 2023 it was in theHarrogate district.
