Mikado cake (Armenian:Միկադո տորթ), also known asMikado, is an Armenian layered cake invented in theArmenian SSR and made withboiled condensed milk ordulce de leche buttercream, sour cream and topped with grated chocolate.[1][2][3]

History

[edit]

It is believed that the name of the cake was taken from the product warehouse inBaku, which was built in traditional Eastern style by the son of a renowned businessmen Haji Bek Karimov after his trip to China and Japan. As a lot of Armenians lived in Baku, the name was soon repurposed for a cake, and the dessert itself is now eaten primarily inArmenia.[4]
