Metapolygnathus is an extinct genus of platformconodonts.
Mazzaella is a new genus that also includesMetapolygnathus baloghi Kovacs (1977).
The top of theCarnian or the base of theNorian stages (Late Triassic) begin at the base of the conodont biozones ofMetapolygnathus communisti andMetapolygnathus primitius. Aglobal reference profile for the base (a GSSP) had in 2009 not yet been appointed.
