Merlin Rex Lybbert (31 January 1926 – 6 July 2001) was ageneral authority ofthe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) from 1989 to 1994. From 1992 to 1994, Lybbert was the thirteenth general president of the LDS Church'sSunday School.
Lybbert was born inCardston,Alberta, Canada. After a short period of service in theCanadian Army near the end ofWorld War II, Lybbert served as amissionary in the church's Eastern StatesMission. After his mission, he married Nola Cahoon in theAlberta Temple in 1949.
Prior to his call as a general authority, Lybbert served in the church as abishop,stake president andregional representative. In 1989, he became one of the inaugural members of theSecond Quorum of the Seventy. As a general authority, he was a member of the presidency of the church'sAsiaArea. Lybbert was released as a general authority in 1994, and served aspresident of the Alberta Temple from 1994 to 1997.
Lybbert died inSalt Lake City, Utah. He and his wife had six children, including a daughter, Ruth, who marriedDale G. Renlund, who later became a member of the church'sQuorum of the Twelve Apostles.
