Menedemus of Pyrrha

For Menedemus of Eretria, the founder of the Eretrian School of Philosophy, seeMenedemus.

Menedemus ofPyrrha (Lesbos) (Ancient Greek:Μενέδημος; fl. c. 350 BC, was a member ofPlato'sAcademy, during the time ofSpeusippus. Upon the death ofSpeusippus in 339 BC, an election was held for the next scholarch of the Academy. Menedemus andHeraclides narrowly lost toXenocrates. Menedemus left the Academy, and set up a school of his own.[1]
