Masum Khan (Bengali:মাসুম খাঁ; b. 1604) was azamindar of Bengal. He was the eldest son and successor ofBaro-Bhuiyan leaderMusa Khan and the grandson ofIsa Khan.[2]

Early life and family

Masum Khan was born into aBengali Muslim BaisRajput family fromSarail. His father,Musa Khan, and grandfather,Isa Khan, were both prominent leaders of theBaro-Bhuiyan confederacy. His great great grandfather, Bhagirath, migrated fromAyodhya to serve as theDewan of theSultan of BengalGhiyasuddin Mahmud Shah. Khan's great grandfather,[citation needed] Kalidas Gazdani, converted toIslam under the guidance ofIbrahim Danishmand and took the name Sulaiman Khan.[3] Sulaiman married the Sultan's daughterSyeda Momena Khatun, Masum Khan's great grandmother, and received theZamindari ofSarail.[4]

Rule

Following the death of his father in April 1623, theSubahdar ofMughal BengalIbrahim Khan Fath-i-Jang recognised Masum Khan as the successor of Musa's estate.[2]

Masum Khan served in theSiege of Hooghly in 1632 by the Mughal army against thePortuguese. Again he took part in the Mughal invasion ofAssam in 1636.[2]
