Marinobacter is a genus ofbacteria found in sea water. They are also found in a variety of salt lakes.[3]A number ofstrains andspecies candegradehydrocarbons.[4] The species involved in hydrocarbon degradation includeM. alkaliphilus,M. arcticus,M. hydrocarbonoclasticus,M. maritimus, andM. squalenivorans.[5]
There are currently 46 species ofMarinobacter that are characterized by Gram-negative rods and salt-tolerance.[3]
