InIrish mythology,Mac Gréine of theTuatha Dé Danann was a son ofCermait, son ofthe Dagda. Mac Gréine's given name wasCéthur. Mac Gréine isIrish for "Son of the Sun". His wife wasÉriu.
He and his brothersMac Cuill andMac Cecht killedLug in revenge for their father. The three brothers became jointHigh Kings of Ireland, rotating the sovereignty between them a year at a time, covering twenty-nine or thirty years depending on the source consulted. They were the last kings of theTuatha Dé Danann before the coming of theMilesians. Mac Gréine and his brothers treacherously slewÍth, prompting his nephewMíl Espáine and his sons to invade Ireland for revenge. During the battle against the Milesians, Mac Gréine was slain byAmergin Glúingel.[1]
