TheMRT Line 5 (Bengali:এমআরটি লাইন ৫,romanised: Em-Ar-Ti Lain Pachh) is an approved mass rapid transit line ofDhaka Metro Rail. It will be the third line of the Dhaka Metro Rail system. This line comprisesNorthern Route andSouthern Route. The construction of the MRT Line 5'sNorthern Route began in 5 November 2023 and is scheduled to commence operation by 2028.[1]
In 2005, theWorld Bank published a study report, recommending that thegovernment of Bangladesh build a mass transit system inDhaka. In the same year, American consultancy firmLouis Berger Group prepared a strategic transport plan for Dhaka.[2] The World Bank helped to develop this plan, which proposed the construction of five MRT lines in Dhaka.[3] The five metro lines wereMRT Line 1,MRT Line 2,MRT Line 4, MRT Line 5 andMRT Line 6.[4]
The construction of the Northern Route of the MRT Line 5 will start in July 2023 and will end by 2028.[5]
