Thelongest word in theRomanian language ispneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcaniconioză, the long name ofsilicoză (silicosis). It consists of 44 letters and refers to achronicrespiratory disease.[1] Its name in theEnglish language ispneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis, which is itself thelongest English word registered in a major Englishdictionary.[2][3] Nevertheless, neither this word nor several subsequent Romanian longest words are recognized by theDicționarul explicativ al limbii române ("Explanatory Dictionary of the Romanian Language", DEX).[1] Instead, the longest word collected by the DEX iselectroglotospectrografie, which is amedical stabilization method, has 25 letters and comes from theFrench wordélectroglottospectrographie.[4][5]
