A. minisculus

Anisolophus is an extinct genus ofproterotheriid from the Early to MiddleMiocene ofArgentina. The genus was named by Burmeister in 1885 to accommodate the speciesAnchitherium australe, which they had named earlier in 1879. Soria then referred the speciesLicaphrium floweri andAnisolophus minisculus to the genus, makingLicaphrium, named in 1887 byFlorentino Ameghino, a junior synonym of the genus. BothA. australis andA. floweri are known from theSantacrucian ageSanta Cruz Formation, whileA. minisculus is known from theCollón Curá Formation.[2]

Anisolophus is considered the senior synonym of the genusLicaphrium, which was named in 1887 by Ameghino for the speciesL. floweri, nowA. floweri. Many other species ofLicaphrium were named, many of which are considered synonyms ofA. floweri,Tetramerorhinus,Neobrachytherium, orLophogonodon, as well as thedubiousLicaphrium debile,L. arenarum,L. intermissum,L. parvulum. Two invalid species ofAnisolophus are known,A. fischeri, andA. acer, which are both dubious and also known asDiaphragmodon fischeri orHeptaconus acer.[1]
