In the early 1980s, the councils of sixbarangays, along with residents of Maras, in the then southernSindangan demanded for a new municipality, which was originally proposed to be calledTalinga, with the barangay with the same name, located 11 kilometers fromPoblacion, to be the seat of government. The proposed municipality was to intervene the distance of Sindangan andSalug from each other, which were about 40 kilometers.[5]
