TheLashkar al-Zil (Urdu: لشکر الضل; theShadow Army), also known asJaish al-Usrah, or the Army of the Protective Sheild,[1] is a paramilitary organization linked toal-Qaeda and descended from the055 Brigade.[2] According toSyed Saleem Shahzad, it "comprises thePakistani Taliban,313 Brigade, the AfghanTaliban,Hezb-e-Islami Afghanistan and formerIraqi Republican Guards".[3] Lashkar al-Zil has reportedly been led byKhalid Habib al Shami,[2]Abdullah Said al Libi, andIlyas Kashmiri.[3][4]

The Lashkar al-Zil has been involved in attacks in Afghanistan's eastern and southern provinces.[5] News reports have linked it to several specific attacks, including theCamp Chapman attack[3] and theSudhnati suicide bombing.[6]
